Our Story
We are Halle and Kamahla, two sisters who love surfing. Growing up together near Byron Bay on the beautiful east coast of Australia, the ocean has always been at the heart of everything we do, and looking after it really matters to us. We’re high school students who love surfing and care about the environment, and we’re really excited to share with you what our family has been using for years.
Our dad has been making his own natural zinc sunscreen for a really long time, and honestly it is the best sunscreen we have ever used. Halle has really fair skin and burns easily, and after trying a lot of commercial lotion sunscreens, nothing really ever came close to what dad was making in the shed. His all-natural zinc blend actually kept her protected, and didn’t have nasty chemicals that plenty of sunscreens are loaded with. It was just something our family used before every surf and honestly we never really thought too much about it.
Then one afternoon in 2023 while we were getting ready to paddle out, it hit us. Why weren’t we sharing this with everyone?
Our dad is a beekeeper and has always had an abundance of pure beeswax on hand, which happens to be one of the key ingredients in our blend. Luckily dad was keen and taught us how to make it. He helped us dial in the recipe, track down the best quality organic ingredients, source the tins and even showed us how to design and print our labels. We made our first few batches together and immediately started selling to friends and family. The feedback was really good so we knew we were onto something! It was all we needed to hear, and Surf The Earth was born.
Every tin we make contains the same all-natural, ocean-safe ingredients our dad originally put together. Non-nano zinc oxide, organic coconut oil, organic cacao powder and pure sustainably harvested beeswax, handcrafted in small batches and packaged plastic-free. No synthetic chemicals, nothing bad for your skin, just honest broad-spectrum protection for you and the ocean.
